Welcome to the 2017 Season of the Camarillo Cougars.  As a founding member of the Gold Coast Youth Football League, we recently completed celebrating our 12th season, and are looking forward to starting our 13th year serving the youth of Camarillo.  We have outstanding and hardworking parents, volunteers, and board members, who are united in their efforts to build the character of and develop outstanding young men and young women that will benefit our community for years to come.  We are financially sound and proud to be recognized by the Pleasant Valley Parks & Recreation Department as a Camarillo Community Service Organization.

As many of you have have heard the GCYFL spent a year researching youth football leagues nationally and locally analyzing the demographics and weight trends of youth throughout the country and especially in Ventura and LA Counties.  The purpose of these efforts was to create and offer a safe and competitive environment to learn, to play, and to grow a love the sport of tackle football, The Results of these efforts was a realignment of our age and weight divisions.  The new age and weight divisions were implemented with successful results during the 2015 Football season. We are proud to move forward into our third year under these new safer divisions. We encourage you to compare our age and weight divisions with any organization in California. We look forward to once again fielding teams in all 6 age divisions, Mighty Mite, Bantam, Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior.

The GCYFL has been known for its innovation and safety, bringing the sport of football to more youth in our communities.  Introducing the X-Player rule to Southern CA, first in the Senior, then to all divisions, allowing for age appropriate football, instituting the 2 conference system, putting experienced players and new players in separate conferences to play against like talent, not allowing bullying or gladiators to scare new players out of the sport.  Instituting background checks for all Coaches and yearly Coaches Training with a Code of Ethics for all Coaches to abide by and being an early adopter of the NFL’s USAFootball Heads Up for Safety tackling program.

With strong backing from our parents and community the Cougars Football and Cheer program is looking forward to making new friends, re-establishing old relationships, working hard, having fun, all in all having a great 2017 season.

The Camarillo Cougars are a Community Service Organization with the Pleasant Valley Recreation and Parks District.

Camarillo's Premier Youth Football Organization

The Cougars Youth Football and Cheerleading organization exists to provide children in the community the opportunity to learn the game of football and the art of cheerleading.  To promote an atmosphere where ALL players and cheerleaders are taught fundamentals, skill training, tactical decision making and position play.  It is our goal to teach the meaning of camaraderie, team play, sportsmanship and spirit, and encourage honor, integrity, confidence and creativity in performing the learned skills.  The drive toward achieving exceptional skill or the winning of games shall be secondary to the prime goal of promoting sportsmanship and molding ethical individuals.

ATTENTION:

The GCYFL and the Camarillo Cougars are proud to announce after extensive evaluation of our player weights over the past 6 years and watching trends in our communities from Ventura to the Santa Clarita Valley to Los Angeles, we adjusted our weights for the 2015 season to maintain the safest, most competitive football environment in Southern California. We look forward to the continued benefit of these new safer Age and Weight divisions for the 2017 season.
